Some FAQ’s.
New Patients
We are not currently accepting new patients. If you wish to be added to our waiting list you can submit a new patient form on our ‘waiting list’ page, and in the event of additional capacity we will contact you. Please do not ring the surgery to check on the status of our waiting list. We will contact you if/when we are able to receive you as a patient.
House Calls
Home visits are restricted to immobile patients or those requiring end of life care. Each request will be reviewed by the doctor.
Requests for house calls must be phoned in before 11 am. Requests will be assessed individually by the doctors and will only be offered to patients deemed too ill to travel to the surgery. If at all possible it is better if the patient attends the surgery as there is a full range of equipment here to deal with most problems. Urgent appointments are available every day and sick patients will be facilitated where possible. Please consult with reception staff who will then liaise with your doctor.
Results
If you have had blood tests taken in the surgery and are awaiting results please phone the surgery after 7-10 days. The Reception staff are unable to give results as a matter of policy. A message will be taken and either the Nurse of one of the doctors will phone you with the results. Normal results may be texted via SMS messaging or our Practice Nurse may call you.
Abnormal results may be best followed up with a further appointment. Your doctor will either phone to discuss the result or, if more appropriate, get our reception staff to contact you to suggest making a further appointment.
Prescriptions
Prescription requests take up to 2 working days to process. Please note that there may be times when the doctor will require to see you before a repeat prescription can be issued. Your medication must be reviewed at least every six months so please make an appointment to be seen prior to your prescription expiring.
To ensure that you do not run out of your medication please allow one weeks notice for a repeat prescription. Each repeat prescription, private or medical card, is checked individually by your doctor to ensure accuracy. Please note that if you require additional medication to your normal repeat prescription, or if you feel you require antibiotics, you will need to see the doctor.
Payments
It is practice policy for all accounts to be settled at the time of consultation before leaving the surgery. We do not offer an invoice payment system. Payment can be made by cash or cheque, Visa or Mastercard credit or debit cards. Please retain your receipts-these are necessary to claim from your insurance company or under the MED 1 Form. (You can claim tax relief on some medical expenses on this form).
Items not covered by the Medical Card include:
Driving License Medical and Driving License Eye Tests
Smear Tests (unless you have a letter from Cervical Check)
Travel Vaccinations
Medical examinations and reports for legal purposes
Medical examinations and reports for insurance companies
Medical examinations in connection with fitness to take part in sports
Pre-employment medicals
Pre-school examinations
Letters or referrals other than those related to Consultants/Hospitals
From June 2018 all prescription requests need to be made in writing on our repeat prescribing request form.
The Irish College of General Practitioners now recommends that requests for repeat prescriptions are made in writing. This system will ensure maximum patient safety, reduce the risk of prescribing of unnecessary medications, ensure accurate records of patient medication requests are retained and minimise human error.
It will also free up the reception staff to deal more efficiently with patient queries over the phone.
